Diary of a SAFFA Dog – The Weekend

Election Day has dawned at last, we have cast our vote for the small man with the big ears.  Now we await to see what happens later tonight.  Mother says it is quite a nuisance  that the election eve is the same night that the Bokke are playing in Brisbane.  She is adorned in her supporters gear and is sporting quite a silly hat.  My rugby jacket has been brought out of mothballs but I am quite embarrassed to admit that it no longer fits me.  I am to be put on a diet during my stay at the Holiday Home to see if I can shed the pounds.

Mother returned home jubilant from the rugby, it appears the Bokke meted out quite a thrashing to their opponents.  It was the very first time that they had won a match in Brisbane.  Judging by her gait a considerable amount of alcohol had been involved in support of the Team!

Sunday was a busy day in the house as Mother’s preparations for her trip are in full swing.  The suitcase has been dragged out  and clothes are being prepared.  The usual amount of mutterings about things not fitting  were heard.  I suggested in future that she buy larger sizes to avoid this situation in the future.  I was told not to be silly and to mind my own business.  Her problem I am sure could be solved by lowering her consumption of food and drink.

We had a small altercation this afternoon. Someone had the nerve to tie up at our jetty without so much as a bye your leave.  Mother had a few choice words for the culprit, who made a hasty retreat under the barrage of abuse that floated his way.  I dare say he will never make that mistake again!

Our walk was relatively peaceful, it was a beautiful afternoon and all was pleasant and calm around the lake.  That is, until a duck family emerged from the bushes right under Bella’s nose.  Normally she is quite sensitive to the needs of the ducks, but this family had invaded her personal space and she does not like that.  Disaster was avoided by some pretty quick thinking by Mother and the ducks all scurried away to the safety of the water.

Mother is off to a party with the ‘single girls’ tonight, so once more we shall be left to our own devices.  She will no doubt make sure that we are fed and watered before she leaves for her social event. She is good like that, we never fear that we shall go hungry.

Another week approaches…night all.
